Our Story
Why Poéma exists
Poéma comes from the Greek poiēma—something made, a work, or a creation. In Ephesians 2:10, it is used for ‘God’s workmanship.’ For me, the name reflects a deeply held belief: every person is created with purpose and is worthy of dignity, understanding, and care.
After more than 30 years in healthcare and a lifetime of teaching, I’ve seen how much good happens when people truly understand their health. They ask better questions, take part in their care with more confidence, and care for the people they love more fully. And learning doesn’t stop at the end of an appointment. Questions come up later, at home, at work, and while caring for someone we love. Many qualified clinicians want more ways to share what they know beyond the exam room.
I created Poéma to bring those together and extend the conversation. It is a community where Members and Verified Poéma Clinicians learn side by side, through trustworthy education, professional knowledge, practical information, community observation, and lived experience, each valued for what it is. Poéma works alongside the care people already receive, adding a place to keep learning, ask openly, and come to the next appointment informed, connected, and confident.

Sharing a personal health experience can feel vulnerable. Poéma therefore gives Members control over their public identity, visibility, and participation. Authenticity without exposure.
- Choose the public display name and avatar you're identified by across Poéma — your choice, any time.
- Poéma may require private account information, such as your email, to keep your account secure — this is never shown publicly.
- You decide what you share, when you share it, and how much of your experience to make visible.
- Listening without posting is a valid way to participate — you don't have to share to belong.
- Privacy doesn't remove accountability — all participation still follows Poéma's Community Standards.
- Verified Poéma Clinicians participate under their verified professional identity and credentials, not a private display name.
